The basics of golf
Golf is played by simply striking a small ball with a series of clubs. During gameplay, a golfer will tee off from each hole’s teeing ground. The ball will ideally land on the fairway, a patch of finely cut grass between the teeing ground and the putting green. The fairway is flanked on either side by rough (long grass that is difficult to get out off) and often features water hazards (bodies of water) or sand bunkers (pits of sand). Once on the fairway, a player will then attempt to land on the green, a section of packed grass that features a hole marked with flag. If successful, they can then attempt to putt it into the hole.
A round of golf is complete when a player sinks the ball in each of the 18 holes of a course. The player who completes all 18 holes in the least number of shots wins.
